Our Story

Rock of Ages Lutheran Church has been serving the westside of Colorado Springs since 1956 always seeking to preach and teach our Lutheran understanding of the Christian faith in relevant and meaningful ways.  The fuller name of our church is Rock of Ages Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Unaltered Augsburg Confession, which means that we take our historic Confessional Lutheran faith very seriously, yet we strive to remember that the context into which we speak this truth continues to change.  Our current upward sloping sanctuary reflects the midcentury modern architecture of its day as our founders sought ways to be faithful and relevant in liturgical worship.  Similarly, to further provide for and engage our community, we started a Preschool and Childcare ministry in 1985, which continues to be a vital part of who we are!  We love kids!  We love their energy!  We love their enthusiasm!  And we are humbled to help young parents form this Christian identity.  More and more as our world changes we pray continually that God will give us additional opportunities to bring Christ’s eternal truth to a confused and hurting world be that through our community garden, youth activities, live streaming, or making quilts to warm the lonely.  We pray that God will use us to further the relevance of Word and Sacrament ministry for many years to come!
